Materials & craft

What ILOSYA pendants are made of — and the care that goes into making them.

Personalising a cremation pendant is exacting work. The material must hold engraving precisely. The process must handle something irreplaceable with care. This is how we approach both.

The material

316L surgical-grade stainless steel.

The same grade of steel used in surgical instruments and medical implants. We chose 316L because a pendant that holds ashes and carries a fingerprint needs to last — through daily wear, through water, through years. It should not need careful handling or special storage. It should simply be worn.

316L is hypoallergenic, tarnish-resistant, and holds engraving with exceptional precision and longevity. The silver finish is the natural steel surface. Gold and rose gold variants are finished with PVD coating — a vacuum-bonded process that adheres the colour permanently to the steel without adding meaningful thickness.

It is a considered choice, not a default one.

GRADE

316L

Low carbon surgical grade. More corrosion-resistant than standard 316. The same specification used in medical and surgical applications.

SKIN SAFE

Hypoallergenic

No nickel in the surface layer. Suitable for sensitive skin and most metal allergies. Safe for continuous wear.

WATER

Daily wear

Resistant to water and sweat. Suitable for showering and swimming. Prolonged saltwater immersion is best avoided.

TARNISH

Resistant

Does not tarnish under normal conditions. A soft polishing cloth restores shine. No special storage required.

ENGRAVING

High precision

316L holds fine engraving detail well — ridge lines, portrait features, and handwriting remain clear over time.

FINISHES

Silver · Gold · Rose gold

Silver is the natural steel surface. Gold and rose gold are PVD-coated — permanently bonded colour, not a plating that wears away.

The craft

Personalising a cremation pendant requires more preparation than most jewellery. Here is why.

The source material — a fingerprint, a photograph, a piece of handwriting, a paw print — comes from a single, often irreplaceable moment. Before engraving begins, that material is reviewed and prepared carefully. The quality of what arrives on the pendant depends entirely on the quality of that preparation.

Our guarantee

We stand behind every piece we make.

If something is not right — with the material, the construction, or the engraving — we want to know. Our guarantee covers two things specifically, with clear terms for each.

12 months
MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION
Covers: Any defect in the pendant steel, the compartment seal, the chain weld, or the PVD colour finish that appears under normal wear within 12 months of delivery. If a manufacturing defect appears, we replace or remake the piece at no cost.
Does not cover: Surface scratches or marks from daily use, damage from impact or misuse, or normal wear to the polished finish over time.
90 days
ENGRAVING QUALITY
Covers: Any engraving that is unclear, misaligned, or does not match the file as submitted and confirmed, reported within 90 days of delivery. We will review and remake where the issue is with our production rather than the source file.
Does not cover: Engraving quality that reflects the limitations of the original submitted file — which is why we review every file before production and contact you if we have concerns.

To make a warranty claim, contact us at support@ilosya.com with your order number and a photograph of the issue. We aim to respond within one working day.
